Jimei

Hometown of the prominent Chinese businessman and philanthropist Tan Kah Kee Jimei and many overseas Chinese, Jimei Subdistrict is the seat of the well-known Jimei School Village, a popular tourist destination, and the administrative and cultural center of Jimei District. It governs five neighborhood communities. Of its population of 71,500, 61,000 are residents and 35,000 are university students. Flourishing on this land of 4.6 square kilometers are enterprises, academic and administrative institutions, and universities, at national, provincial and municipal levels beside the local ones.

In recent years, Jimei has achieved remarkable development of both economic growth and social progress that makes it a livable community for residents. It has been awarded as Star Subdistrict of Fujian, Culturally Advanced Subdistrict, Subdistrict of Security and Peace, and Subdistrict of Harmonious Community Modal respectively in Xiamen, as well as an Advanced Unit in Social Progress 2003-2005 , and 2003-2005, in Fujian Province. Yinting is a banner Neiborhood Community in Jimei, awarded as a National Learning Community and a Modal for Community Development of Fujian.

 Jimei is well-known for the school village at home and abroad by its founder, the eminent leading overseas Chinese Tan Kah Kee Jimei. The beautiful scenery and cultural riches here attracts more than one million tourists from home and abroad each year. Transportation is convenient in Jimei. Fuzhou-Xiamen-Zhangzhou Expressway, National Highway 324, Xiamen International Airport, Xiamen Bridge and Jimei Bridge constitute make it an important transport hub. They pave the way from the land, sea and air for investment and sightseeing by people from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and elsewhere in the world and constitute a springboard for commerce, tourism and real estate to jump higher in their development.
